About

Jack Hamilton Simons

Though he suffered from severe acrophobia, Jack Hamilton Simons enlisted in the U.S. Army intent on serving in the airborne infantry forces. When they told him to jump out an airplane, he jumped. Once he was falling, he says, it wasn't so bad.
Jack did his duty, and before long that same spirit took him into the Army Special Forces and off to Vietnam -- and it also brought him home.
Since then, Jack has made a habit of leaping regardless of the risk. He leapt into Moody Bible Institute and came out a pastor. He leapt into newsrooms and rose to Editorial Editor at the Iowa City Press Citizen. He leapt into higher education and earned an MFA in Fiction Writing and an MA in Essay Writing from the Iowa Writer's Workshop and then a PhD in English from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He spent the next few decades in the classroom leading writing workshops -- when he wasn't playing viola or practicing his tennis swing.
Jack's faith that God would always help him land safely proved well-founded and has given him an insight into life and humanity that shines through his storytelling, giving his tales of high adventure a depth and reality that strikes deep into the reader.
Today, Jack lives in Phoenix, AZ with his wife of more than 50 years, and enjoys playing snooker with an ever-expanding brood of grandchildren.
